Devanshi Verma, Associate Therapist with The Couple Wellness Experts, MSW, RSW, PhD, CHRL

Are you longing to feel close again?

Do you find yourselves stuck in the same painful conversations — or avoiding them altogether?

Every relationship goes through seasons. Sometimes the friendship feels strong and easy. Other times, stress, misunderstandings, betrayal, or life transitions create distance. You may still love each other deeply, yet feel unheard, unseen, or alone in the relationship.

I work with couples at many different stages — from those preparing for marriage to those navigating years of shared history. Some couples are rebuilding after betrayal. Others are simply exhausted from conflict that never seems to resolve. Many are balancing careers, parenting, cultural expectations, or major life changes while trying to stay connected.

In our work together, both partners matter. I create a calm, respectful space where difficult conversations can happen safely — where emotions are understood, patterns become clearer, and repair becomes possible.

Types of Therapy:

My work is grounded in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. I am currently completing Levels 1 and 2 training in the Gottman Method. I use its structured assessments and practical tools to help couples strengthen friendship, communicate more effectively, manage conflict gently, and rebuild trust after hurt.

Alongside the Gottman Method, I integrate Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as well. My style is collaborative and steady. I believe meaningful change happens when couples feel emotionally safe enough to turn toward each other instead of away.

Training and Experience

As a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) and maintain membership with the Ontario Association of Social Workers. My background also includes a PhD in Management and designation as a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL).

Before moving fully into clinical practice, I spent over a decade in academic leadership and management. With that, I worked with students extensively, coaching them with their career goals and job readiness. This experience gives me particular insight into the pressures faced by high-achieving professionals — leadership demands, performance stress, ambition, and responsibility — and how these can quietly affect intimacy and partnership at home.

At the same time, my work is rooted in the belief that every couple, regardless of background or profession, deserves a relationship that feels secure, respectful, and emotionally connected.

More than just my work:

On a personal note, I am a mother of two wonderful children and have been married to my husband for nearly two decades. My own experiences have deepened my appreciation for the ongoing intention, care, and patience that relationships require. I believe strongly in taking care of yourself and your loved ones, even during life’s busiest seasons. Outside of my work, I enjoy dancing (Bollywood and freestyle), traveling, and spending meaningful time with my family.

Relationships are not strengthened by avoiding conflict, but by learning how to repair and reconnect. It is a privilege to walk alongside couples as they rediscover each other, rebuild trust, and create a partnership that feels safe, resilient, and meaningful.
