Melissa Johari, Clinic Director of The Couple Wellness Experts, BA, MSW, MTS, RSW, CF, Certified Gottman Therapist
Are you feeling disconnected?
Couples can sometimes feel disconnected from each other, as life just gets busy and stressful. I am here to offer an opportunity to reconnect using evidence-based tools and resources, through session work or retreats. Couples find their friendship strengthened, communication improve, and conflict more manageable.
Are you looking for supervision or consulting services?
As practitioners, it’s always helpful to gain clarity on a case, process our work, get new ideas/insights, or even just reassurance that we’re on the right track! As a newly Approved American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Supervisor, I am happy to offer new or experienced psychotherapists supervision or consultation. I am qualified to offer Supervision to Social Workers, Registered Psychotherapists and Qualifying Registered Psychotherapists with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I specialize in couples using the Gottman Method, if you ever need some guidance in this area.

Experience:
Melissa is a Registered Social Worker and a Laurier University graduate with a Master’s degree in Social Work. She is a Clinical Fellow with AAMFT. Over the past twenty years, Melissa has worked in child protection and private practice, supporting couples and families of various cultural and religious backgrounds to grow and thrive. She is also a “7 Principles for Making Marriage Work” Workshop Leader, and facilitates couple retreats annually.
Melissa takes a holistic (systemic) perspective, taking into account all areas of your lives: financial, spiritual, physical, emotional, social, vocational, sexual, and environmental. She developed the Relational Wellness Wheel in 2011, to demonstrate how each of these areas of wellness interacts with your relationship. See Melissa’s “Relational Wellness Wheel” website page for more information. She has an interest in nutrition and yoga. She is working on her yoga training certificate, and eventually wants to be able to integrate this into her work with couples.
Melissa primarily offers video counselling. She also has an office location with limited hours at Portico Church in Mississauga at this time. Her associates will be continuing with this office location in Mississauga when she moves her home office to Sarnia in the summer of 2025.
More than just my work:
I am Canadian and of mixed racial background (Malaysian and Dutch). I enjoy playing games with my son and hanging out with my huge dog, Daisy ☺
